hi,
i met a guy once who had a 182 that he said was now a homebuilt. i am considering a similar project to rebuilt a formally certified airplane but i want to do it as a homebuilt. anybody have any ideas how this is done or am i mistaken?

Was a huge fight 15 years ago to get one passed, not gonna happen at all these days considering that previously certified parts can not be counted against the 50% rule anymore, unless I'm mistaken.

You can build one from scratch or kit though, just cannot refurbish an old airframe and expect to have MDRA and TC sign it off as a homebuilt.

There are much better wing profiles out there to play with than a Cessna wing anyhow! Now if you only had a 182 cabin section and wanted to build the rest of the fuselage and use some fresh wing ideas that would be a different can of worms!

it was a rebuilding and re-engining (if thats a word) of a pa-23-160. its currently dis-assembled and i thought maybe i could get away with it but there's no way it would meet the 50% rule.
